2024 Hyundai Kona: the Subcompact Crossover, Evolved

2024 Hyundai Kona

Since its debut in 2018, the Hyundai Kona has come a long way. The 2024 Hyundai Kona kicks off the SUV’s second generation with a larger footprint, updated technology, and an enviably larger cabin. While it’s still a subcompact SUV, you’ll see that the redesigned Hyundai Kona isn’t nearly as compact as it used to be when you view the vehicle at Kearny Mesa Hyundai.

Powertrain Options

There are six powertrain options within the Hyundai Kona lineup. The SUV’s base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive.

Next is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. You can choose between front- and all-wheel drive, but vehicles with this engine are only offered with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission.

Two all-electric powertrains are available, neither offered with all-wheel drive. The base configuration includes an electric motor that provides 133 horsepower, while the top variation includes a more powerful motor that delivers 201 horsepower. SUVs with the base powertrain can travel up to 197 miles, while vehicles with the other all-electric powerplant can cover as many as 260 miles between charges.*

Passenger Space and Cargo Room

2024 Kona Interior

If you viewed the previous generation Hyundai Kona, you’ll instantly realize the all-new Hyundai Kona is larger than its predecessor when you get a glimpse of the SUV at our San Diego, CA, Hyundai dealership. The second-generation Hyundai Kona is nearly six inches longer than the previous generation. That translates into three more inches of legroom for the three passengers who can travel in the second row of the five-passenger SUV.

Given the vehicle’s longer wheelbase, the Hyundai Kona now has more room for cargo. With its seats in position, the SUV’s cargo space measures 25.5 cubic feet. The SUV’s cargo capacity swells to 63.7 cubic feet if you fold the back seats.

Standard Features

New Hyundai SUVs are exceptionally well appointed with desirable equipment. Here are some examples of the features that are standard for the Hyundai Kona:

  • Forward collision warning and intervention system
  • Lane departure warning
  • 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity
  • 4.2-inch driver information display
