Whoever said good things come in small packages may have had a vehicle like the 2023 Hyundai Kona in mind. It may not be big, but it has everything you need in an SUV. Plus, with a starting MSRP of $21,990, this compact sports utility vehicle is more than worth the sticker price.

Power and Performance

The base engine in the Hyundai Kona is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder unit that offers 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Two others are available: a turbocharged 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 195 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that cranks out 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque.

A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is standard, but you can opt for either a seven- or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available.

This new Hyundai vehicle is very nimble, and it maneuvers easily in tight spaces. It’s also fun to drive, especially if you go with the sporty N trim. This comes with a limited-slip differential, a sport-tuned suspension, and a sport exhaust.

Interior

For a smaller SUV, the Hyundai Kona has a big cabin that comfortably seats up to five people. A six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and cloth upholstery are standard. You can get an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather and suede upholstery, and heated front seats. As for cargo space, this Hyundai SUV offers 19.2 cubic feet behind the back row and 45.8 cubic feet when it’s down.
